China Transport Investment Tops $513 Billion in 2025

China transport investment reached new heights in 2025 after authorities announced more than 3.6 trillion yuan, equivalent to about $513.6 billion, in fixed-asset spending to expand national transport infrastructure.

According to official data, China transport investment included the completion of more than 2,000 kilometers of high-speed railways and nearly 8,000 kilometers of new expressways across the country.

Waterway upgrades were also carried out, with about 900 kilometers of shipping channels opened for large vessels, alongside the addition of five new civil transport airports, reinforcing the scale of China transport investment.

Record passenger volumes

Passenger traffic hit record levels during major holiday travel seasons, reaching about 9 billion passenger trips during the Spring Festival peak and more than 2.4 billion trips during the National Day holiday.

Average daily ridership across rail transport systems, including trains, subways and trams, exceeded 90 million trips, highlighting the growing impact of China transport investment on service capacity.
