China Sanctions US Defense Firms Over Taiwan Arms Deals
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced new measures imposing China sanctions on a group of US defense companies and executives in response to American arms sales to Taiwan.
The ministry said the China sanctions will take effect on December 26 and will cover 20 companies and 10 senior executives linked to the defense sector, without disclosing specific details of the penalties.
According to the official statement, the list subject to China sanctions includes major firms such as Northrop Grumman Systems, L3 Harris Maritime Services, Boeing’s St.
Louis unit, and several other companies involved in military technology, drones, and specialized maritime services.
Beijing’s justification
Chinese officials stated that Washington recently approved large-scale arms sales to Taiwan, describing the move as a violation of the “One China” principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués.
The ministry stressed that such actions constitute interference in China’s internal affairs and undermine its sovereignty and territorial integrity, prompting Beijing to respond through China sanctions against the companies and individuals involved.
